The quickly unfolding situation in #Ukraine demonstrates the apparent diplomatic failure of the EU, whose strategic autonomy has shattered in the face of reality. #UkraineRussiaCrisis Russia's recent move of recognizing "the Luhansk People's Republic" and "the Donetsk People's Republic" as independent and sovereign states means major EU countries have failed in their shuttle diplomacy to create channels for peace talks between #Washington and #Moscow .

Recent developments over the #Russia -#Ukraine border are worrying and NATO’s open-to-dialogue attitude is certainly a good sign and should be welcomed. If the current tension between #NATO and Russia is not de-escalated and veer into dangerous conflicts, Ukraine will be among the first to suffer. And no one on either side will win.

What's more horrendous is that there's nothing the world can do about it. The 20-year U.S. war in #Afghanistan killed 47,245 Afghan civilians. Up to 69,000 Afghan soldiers and police who had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks were killed as well. More than 10 million people were displaced. The war has left the country devastated and impoverished.

#China & #Russia are actually defending status quo, which is the #UN system. But the West have to try and explain why they have a business. The audience is the #NonAligned world, who're quietly making a judgment.

@JoeBiden administration's approach to Russia appears to be a combination of “contain” and “engage”.
