Here's the supporting docs to my podcast interview with @canadianglen

The ORIGINAL exposé by Mercedes Stephenson on Global News concealed Conservative Party as source of the racist video depicting PMJT

That disingenuous story by Mercedes Stephenson was followed up by David Akin, also from Global News

That same afternoon, he told PMJT to step aside & quit the election so someone else could take over LPC…

Global News then dramatically edited its original story by Mercedes Stephenson, to finally admit they received the PMJT video from Conservative Party

But they concealed that significant edit too #Ethics

THREAD When you've been in airplane mode, check the news and... 👀
@JustinTrudeau the #brownface video incident is more serious than the two photos because it was not theatrical in nature. I am disappointed, but not surprised, given your testimony in Common Ground #cdnpoli #LPC
From your autobiography, it is clear that the person you are now is radically different from the person you were in your teens and twenties when the #brownface incidents occurred. The deaths of your brother and father (may they RIP) truly changed you #cdnpoli #cdnmedia #LPC
You found solice and peace in religion which enabled you to assist your devastated mother during her breakdown. Accepting God and meeting Sophie changed you from the angry and directionless youth you had been in your teens and 20s to the man are today #cdnpoli #LPC #cdnmedia

After reflecting on Trudeau’s #brownface (and now #blackface) scandal, a THREAD:

TL;DR: Racism is systemic. Policies matter. Commit to anti-racism. Amplify racialized voices. Scrutinize for consistency.

Race is complex. Its discourse must meet that complexity, not overlook it.
First, be *aware*. Stop being surprised by events like this. It’s not “shocking” that Trudeau wore blackface; It’s expected. Racism is systemic in Canada. Those who deny it aren’t seeing a different society, they’re simply failing to name it.
Second, be *precise*. Specifically, ask the right questions: Not “is Trudeau racist?” But “how do his actions reflect systemic racism?” And “what are we doing to dismantle that system?” The individualization of racism is what upholds its systemic force.

A gentle reminder to my American media and academic colleagues: The histories / sociologies of race, racial formation and racism are different in Canada than they are in the United States. Please cover Trudeau's #brownface by inviting Canadian colleagues to share their knowledge.
Also a note of caution: It's election season up in Canada. As you interview and quote twitter reactions from Canadian pundits and politicians, do your due diligence. Ask yourself if their concern about racial justice and representation is sudden and strategic or longstanding.
Finally, please evaluate Trudeau's #brownface episode in relation to the actual practices and policies impacting race/racism/race relations of the Liberal Party of Canada vs. those of other Canadian political parties. Historical and sociological context is everything here.

We are missing the point if this story becomes about Justin Trudeau being unveiled as "a racist". Here is an opportunity to think more deeply about the situation and what allows it to be so. I'm not in any way surprised by the image that has been circulated. /1
North American society is quite focused on identifying people as 'racists' or 'not racists'. Being called racist is considered one of the worst labels you could apply to someone. And yet, we all live, breathe and swim in a soup of structural racism reinforcing racist beliefs. /2
The reason for the crisis is that @JustinTrudeau's image is one of being a 'good person' who identifies as feminist, welcomes immigrants, and reconciliation. So his defenders rush to say, he's not 'a racist' because this is impossible for someone who is a 'good person'. /3

1/8 My favorite #quote by #JosephStalin, which explains the scientific, #DialecticalMaterialist explanation of true freedom in material reality, not just as an abstract ideal. #StalinIsBack #StalinLives #JVStalin #Stalin #StalinQuote #StalinQuotes #Truth #MELS #MarxismLeninism
2/8 Having an #objective, #rational, #ScientificSocialist, #Dialectical, & #Materialist viewpoint allows us to accurately see & evaluate & analyze #Truth & #Reality as they truly materially exist in this universe.
3/8 An idealistic, dogmatic viewpoint, which capitalists have, however, makes one irrational enough to 'see' freedom where freedom stays trapped on a piece of paper while people are oppressed in their actual lived lives.
