NEW by me and @IsaLeeWolf:

@Hyatt sent me two statements about CPAC before they released a third, addressing Nazi symbol-shaped stage.

Hyatt eventually called hate symbols 'abhorrent,' but only after public backlash, calls for boycott.

@Hyatt's full statement on CPAC 2021, released late Sunday. It does not include the word "Nazi."

@ADL: "Nazi uses of the symbol included the divisional insignia of two Waffen SS divisions during World War II."

Hyatt: "stage design had been compared to a symbol of hate." Image
NEW: Statement from Design Foundry, the firm that designed the stage for CPAC 2021. The firm said it has no further comment at this time. #CPAC2021 Image

NEW: #CPAC2021 scuttlebutt: Trump's 2024 White House chances hinge on how successful the GOP is in defeating Democrats in the 2022 midterms businessinsider.com/trump-2024-cha…
Interestingly, that fairly stunning 97/68 (approve/should run in 24) split on Trump in straw poll seemed to match this chatter around #CPAC2021
When Trump laid down the GOP civil war again at the end, it played into this concern I was hearing of whether he can carry the party to general election victories (and actual power) or whether this is losing power

In anticipation of trump's #CPAC2021 speech, these analyses from @BrandeisNow are a view into the #codedlanguage he uses to speak directly to those he has targeted messages for. His base feels as though they have their own secret signals to communicate. /1
Trump's use of literary devices like non sequitur & dog whistles allow him to wiggle away from responsibility because he encodes his messages in the garb of #plausibledeniability I have broken out some definitions as well b/c well, I had to learn them.

Here's a balanced approach to the #CPAC2021 stage.
1. Intentional? Probably, maybe, likely but not necessarily provable to insist ALL attendees/participants were aware.
2. It remains, despite the symbol being directly pointed out to organizers.

Biggest Takeaway: It Remains /1
One can argue that with the knowledge & understanding of #NeoNazi #NeoFascist groups entering more mainstream spaces that the failure to identify the shape is curious, but speculative. The #OdalRune #OthalaRune has been visible during during many #WhiteNationalist rallies. /2
Many outlets have covered the #NSM88's Nov2016 rebranding from the more widely recognized #Swastika to the #OthalaRune #OdalRune

Q-Left? Liberals cook up absurd conspiracy theory to read Nazism into the @CPAC stage. @mschlapp rightly called this leftist fever dream "outrageous and slanderous." CPAC had Jewish prayer sessions and a Shabbat dinner. It stands for Judeo-Christian values

"The Left traffics in 'dog whistles' so incredibly sensitive that only leftists can hear them, as compared to the supposed targets, who only see a stage," @cjvalues exec. director @ymenken told PJ Media.
"I wish that all those who for politics pretend to care about hate, real or imagined, would speak up when Orthodox Jews are generalized and defamed by elected officials," @YossiGestetner told me, referencing his battles against Andrew Cuomo.

1/ THREAD: Body Language Analysis No. 4483: Donald Trump and Ken Paxton — the cult-worshiped and the sycophant. Earlier today, @KenPaxtonTX tweeted this image of him and Donald Trump prior to attending CPAC
#BodyLanguageExpert #BodyLanguage #DonaldTrump #CPAC2021
2/ Paxton has long-standing weakness on the right side of his face. Taking this into account, his smile is sincere (he's experiencing true joy-happiness) being with/posing with Trump.
3/ Note Trump's facial expression, however. His smile is NOT sincere. One tell-tale sign of a feigned smile is recruitment of the neck muscles (platysma and sternocleidomastoids). Trump's neck muscles are significantly contracted. Trump is NOT happy — his smile is poorly faked.

After America became an empire in 1945 the date of the presidential inauguration changed to January 20th. The date of inauguration had always been March 4th. I am not looking for a miracle, but this March 4th I will be curious to see if anything happens in DC with Trump.
Some 7,000 National Guard soldiers and airmen have been retained in Washington, DC through March 12 and then 5,000 indefinitely beyond that date. Clearly, this is related. Keep this in mind when you watch Trump at #CPAC2021 tomorrow.
Anything is possible. We are dealing with Nazi lunatics. Isn’t that right, @radiofreetom? Neoconservatives like Tom Nichols are Neo-Nazis. Pray for Trump! 🙏🏼

I would imagine that it's just a coincidence. Still, it's getting harder and harder to distinguish insane fact from feverish fiction these days.
Idea: a Twitter party game where I make a statement about something absolutely ludicrous that supposedly happened at #CPAC2021, and you have to guess if it's true or false.
Example: A sitting GOP congressman spoke at #CPAC2021 less than 12 hours after addressing a gathering of white nationalists. True or false? (True)

A short thread on #CPAC2021's unusual stage, which is clearly in the shape of a well known Nazi symbol.

It is also a symbol in use today by American extremists.

Matt Schlapp and the CPAC leadership need to explain how this could have happened.
Would be easy for Matt Schlapp to address this today, apologize and make some small changes to the stage.

Would make it clear it was a mistake and that CPAC doesn't want any one to believe they are giving any more aid and comfort to American extremists than they already are.
If a Dem group learned their stage was in the shape of a Nazi/American Neo-Nazi symbol, they would apologize, and change the stage.

Instead it appears Schlapp is plowing ahead, and will put the former President on that stage tomorrow.

It's a mistake.

Ahead of #CPAC2021, our new report underscores how Trump’s racism and xenophobia backfired. Take a look: bit.ly/3q6w3yx Image
"Donald Trump is reemerging to proclaim his domination of the GOP and to put anti-immigrant bigotry at the heart of the party’s message. We predict this will be as ‘successful’ as his efforts to do so in 2018 and 2020." - @ZacharyAMueller
"The GOP strategy is clear: use racism and xenophobia to divide the nation and distract voters from the multiple crises we face. Trump and his Republicans are not interested in governing, they are interested in regaining power." - @ZacharyAMueller
