The UK is fast approaching a demographic tipping-point. You very rarely get tipping-points in demographics because, outside of wars and pandemics, births and deaths are relatively stable. However IMO we are approaching one which will have profound effects on UK politics.

The effect of this demographic tipping-point will be exaggerated by the fact that many people who used to switch from supporting left-of-centre parties around the age of 40, are now not doing so. Indeed the age at which Tory voters start to outnumber Labour ones isโ€ฆ

Probably closer to 50 than 40 now, and it is unlikely to stop there. Home ownership is one of the main drivers of this. However the number of voters over 50 is going to decline quickly over the next few years as the first post-war baby boom starts to die of old age.

I, born in ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ,wanted ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง to work. Which is true?

๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ is respected in the ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡งParliament
๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ has a veto over ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง policies
๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ is an equal member of the ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง union
๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ belongs to the EU like it wants to be
๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ is free from authoritarian rule of a large neighbour

Don't get me wrong. I'm for unions.

But they *have* to be by consent.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง left ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ rightly, because enough dumb citizens were duped by liars into thinking their lives would be improved. ๐Ÿ˜‚. We all know that's horse-shit now.

But consent for #rejoin must be built afresh.
Maybe, one day, Scotland will want to be part of the ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง UK as much as it wants to be part of the ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บEU.

Boris Johnson is kicking that day into the long grass.

So what now, Scotland?

You're the size of ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐDenmark but with more natural resources.

You're twice the size of ROI๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช.

A friend of mine is very disheartened whats going on+how some people even defend Putin+how he+those who disregard rules+democracy get away with it. In the UK or in ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ
โ€žWhy should we not give up and be like the selfish+theTyrants?โ€œ
This is how I responded to her.

2 /โ€žI totally understand your frustration.
Itโ€™s unbelievable what selfishness people have these days.

You are right and correct in all you say.

There is zero excuse for the brutality and mass murder that Putin is doing in Ukraine
3 /(and in several other countries of course) and how he corrupted Brexit and how he corrupted the UK government and how he gives billions of pounds to his oligarch friends in Knightsbridge while his own Russian people are dying of poverty and freezing to death in the wide areas

OK, I'm really struggling with the uproar over @Keir_Starmer saying we need to #MakeBrexitWork.

#Brexit has happened. There is no magic wand we can wave to make it simply vanish in a puff of smoke. We can't just return to 2016 and all live happily ever after...

The path to Rejoining the EU will take 5-20 years (depending on your optimism levels๐Ÿ˜œ) and will necessitate multiple steps bringing us closer to the EU both in terms of standards/trading/economy and also values/attitudes/democracy.

The EU didn't chose Brexit.

Yet the EU has spent 5 years (and counting) expending vast amounts of political energy dealing with Brexit. Every EU country has spent time and money preparing for the changes that Brexit has thrust upon them.

We will need EVERY one of them to allow us to Rejoin

LORD PURVIS was wondering what a cynical govt wd do if knew it could only get a POOR #BrexitDeal๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘‡

โ–ชleave it to the last minute
โ–ชissue a misleading press statement
โ–ชonly allow minute scrutiny
โ–ชseek to prevent post-legislative scrutiny
โ–ชrefuse to publish impact assessment
The INDEPENDENT UK Trade Policy Observatory assessment stated:
โ€œEven with the FTA announced on Christmas Eve, Brexit INCREASES UK-EU trade COSTS, REDUCES TRADE btwn them, & requires resources for form-filling, queuing..These in turn, lead to change in consumption which..
UK residentsโ€™ welfare.โ€
It goes on to a sobering conclusion:
โ€œExports of value added will fall by nearly 5.5% relative to a pre-Brexit scenario & GDP by 4.4%.โ€
My noble friends Lord Fox and Lady Kramer will outline this in more detail.
