The conspiracy theories that infect this country all have one thing in common: that women and minorities are conspiring to topple patriarchal rule to the detriment of our culture.
These things are everywhere, and they take the form of 9/11 Trutherism, the New World Order narrative, even the demonization of progressivism. They're all to the same ends. 2/
At the heart of them they hold the same message: American society depends on patriarchal culture and rule. It's the basis of the country's strength and success and it would take a massive global and societal conspiracy to bring it down and bring down the country with it. 3/
The New World Order business is about the entire power structure being so intimidated by men, their masculinity, and their prowess with guns and self-defense that they'd need to subjugate everything just to make dominance possible. 4/
Globalist conspiracies are a cousin to that idea, but they focus more on collectivism and the danger of reliance, which are portrayed as feminine gendered ideas, and are thus antithetical to the masculine American spirit. 5/
What's most frightening is that white men everywhere are starting to propagate these conspiracies. They're ubiquitous, especially among Trump's base, which is completely obsessed with the idea of the Deep State, globalism, and the New World Order. 6/
This is part of why we get the blowback against gun control. They literally believe it's a conspiracy to rob them of their means of protection and they'll need to fight a guerilla style war. They think they're capable of taking down world-sized armies. 7/
But it all boils down to the patriarchal myth that the system of dominance is a hierarchical system earned on merit. Men are in control because they should be, and any attempt on that order is an attempt on America. 8/
This has led to a bizarre tangling of patriarchal angst and insecurity and the idea of nationalism/patriotism that has nothing to do with either nationalism or patriotism. It's about the extension of the masculine self and fear of emasculation. 9/
It's a bizarre complex, but it's very real and very dangerous. They're killing people because they believe it is a national emergency, but they're simply lashing out due to personal misgivings and insecurities that've been corrupted and focused. 10/
The more I work on this book, the more research I do, the more obvious it's becoming. The gendered/patriarchal view of this country isn't just toxic, it's downright poisonous and cataclysmic. 11/11
