Reasons sea otters are fascinating little creatures - a thread.

They 'raft' together in open waters to stay together as a group.

When they sleep, otters wrap themselves in kelp to make sure they don't drift from the group.
The smallest marine mammals on earth are southern sea otters.
Sea otters groom constantly, fluffing their fur.
When fluffed up, the soft fibres trap air. This gives the otter buoyancy and insulation, preventing the cold water from reaching their skin.
Sea otters use rocks as tools to dislodge and break open prey, such as crabs, urchins and other invertebrates.
Unlike any other otter, sea otters even give birth in water!
