As far as programming languages go, they actually are fairly similar. One major difference you'll encounter is Javascript's less-common "prototype inheritance", rather than "class inheritance": weeklywebwisdom.com/2017/09/13/cla…
And if language diversity is something you're curious about, have I got a site for you!! It's a bajillion examples of different ways to print the lyrics to the song "99 Bottles of Beer".
Get your bearings with some straightforward examples first.

Ruby: 99-bottles-of-beer.net/language-ruby-…

Javascript: 99-bottles-of-beer.net/language-javas…

Then check out C, the granddaddy of many popular languages including Ruby & Javascript. Should still feel "familiar".

C: 99-bottles-of-beer.net/language-c-116…
Then go look at Prolog, which is a "declarative" rather than "imperative" programming language. So you sorta declare what the rules are, and then it feels as though by magic is does the thing for you based on the rules you set up.

Prolog: 99-bottles-of-beer.net/language-prolo…
Then go look at Scheme, from the LISP family of programming langauges. It's okay if you feel confused by all the parens, I feel that way too. ;) It's a popular language among academics and programmers smarter than me. :P

Side note: you can now go back to this xkcd and appreciate it better. ;) xkcd.com/297/
Back to different languages! Next up is Assembler. This is the closest you'll likely get to writing "directly for the computer". Imagine the code example without comments for maximum crypticness. ;)

Finally, for funsies, let us look at the languages of our parents! ;)

COBOL: 99-bottles-of-beer.net/language-cobol…

Fortran: 99-bottles-of-beer.net/language-fortr…

And silly esoteric languages!

Piet: 99-bottles-of-beer.net/language-piet-…

Ook: 99-bottles-of-beer.net/language-ook!-…

Brainfuck: 99-bottles-of-beer.net/language-brain…
This concludes today's programming language diversity training. ;)

Now when you feel like Javascript seems similar to Ruby, you will know that you're actually correct. :)
