I want to do a thread of the similarities between Nigerian Christianity and African religions but I'm hungry and I don't know if I have energy for the insults that will follow.

And screw it. Here goes...

Wasn't Christianity started on top of a human sacrifice?
In the Jewish traditions before Christianity, and which Christianity directly flowed from, blood sacrifices were a required part of the worship.

This was why, when Abraham almost killed his son (horrifying story, that), he eventually replaced him with a ram.
This was why when Jesus was killed, the idea was, rather than a million lambs killed every year, he was the one lamb who would replace all sacrifices, so that if you were a Christian, you wouldn't need one anymore.

So Jesus, in his human body, was killed to birth this religion.
Would it then be wrong to say Christianity started based on human sacrifice?
The blood sacrifice of a living thing as a concept, is one that is common to almost all religions. Some did it in their past, some continue to do it.

I say this cos of the condescension and disdain with which I see a lot of Christians reference African traditional religions.
"They kill things! They worship Idols! They have demons!"

You call your own spirit holy. YOU are the one who has now decided that others are not. Simply because they are not of yours.

The white man came here, brought his own orisha, that was also created in blood...
... and told us ours was too terrible to behold. Told us his own was the only true one.

Think about it. What is different?

Yes, they go to do juju to kill their perceived enemies. Are you not in church every week casting and binding your enemies...
And you're doing in your religion that was started in a blood sacrifice...

You're praying to your own juju, they are praying to theirs.
When you shout holy ghost fire pursue them, r u thinking of satan, or your uncle's wife that prophet told you is the cause of your misfortune?
So they go for divination and are told all kinds of stories. But some of you are also seeing prophets who tell you not to travel because the enemy wants to drink your blood.
"Man cannot worship marmon and God"

Why is their own that is marmon and yours that is god? Because Oyinbo said so?
The one major difference is that African religion believes in plurality of spirits, meaning they make allowances for other spirits including yours. But yours believes in only one true god brought to you through the violence/destruction perpetuated by the white man or the Arab man
The white man has told you your own gods are idols and his is the One True God.

But you have more in common with them than you will admit. You both worship a being you cannot see, with full faith that your worship will be received and you will be rewarded for your faith.
