/ I've mentioned a few times on here about a kind of "digital native", no-culture-wars, no-compromise-but-we're-serious-about-making-it-better pro-gun thing. The idea is to do community, content, & probably some fundraising, & also...
/ ...to provide a venue where journos & gun policy types can ask gun-related questions of subject matter experts in an off-the-record forum, & not get yelled at, threatened, etc. I'm working on this with some others, & I have a general question for twitter:
/ I think there's no point in hosting something like this on FB or another public platform, b/c we'd be constantly fighting efforts to shut us down by abusing the mod system. It has to be done on a stack that we own as much of as possible.
/ So I started thinking discourse.org, because I know rails & it's a mature forum platform, etc. Then I'm like, "we'll add a WP blog and link it, for content purposes." So ok: we have forum + blog, in 2018. 🤔 It sorta feels like, "2005 called and wants its thing back"
/ So I'm kind of stumped. Where can you do community + content + fundraising on an open-source stack that feels 2018 and clued-in and not like you're trying to go back in time a decade?
/ Maybe the answer is to just suck it up and go retro, because frankly the web was better in a decade ago than it is now. But in case I'm missing something, I toss out this internal discussion we're having to you guys.
/ I can take replies in DM if you're more comfortable that way.
