As promised, thread about the other North Korea. Listen to North Korean defectors speak about their country, and the horrors they endured under the Kim dynasty's brutal rule. You may need to turn on closed captions for some of these.
Ji Seong-ho speaks about his harrowing escape from North Korea, when he walked for 6000 miles on crutches his father hand-made for him. He escaped, but his father was captured and tortured to death. Start with this one. You'll probably cry.
Yeonmi Park speaks about her escape from North Korea to the "freedom" of China, before eventually making it to South Korea then the US. You know what completely turned her life upside down? When she got to watch a smuggled version of the movie "Titanic".
Hyeonseo Lee talks about her escape from North Korea to China, then South Korea. She calls herself "the girl with 7 names", because she was undercover in hiding for ten years under numerous identities.
Grace Jo speaks about her escape from North Korea - she had to escape three times, after her father was tortured to death for crossing the border in search for food for his family.
Joseph Kim speaks about his escape from North Korea, and eventual resettlement in the US. He saw his father starve to death and his mother disappear when he was 12 - he attempted escape when he was 16.
Park Sang Hak, a previously "privileged" North Korean, speaks about how he discovered how the rest of the world lives, how he escaped from North Korea, and how he became a North Korean freedom activist.
This is another speech by Park Sang Hak, talking about the total information monopoly the Kim dynasty has, and how modern technology is allowing freedom activists to break that monopoly
Kang Chol-hwan spent 10 years in North Korean gulags. His is a story of immense courage, human resilience, and escape from the Kim dynasty's open prison.
This is another speech by Kang Chol-hwan describing conditions in North Korean gulags.
Thae Yong-ho is a North Korean ex-diplomat who defected from the Kim regime (the highest ranking diplomat to ever do so). An insider, he spells out his hope that access to information alone can do wonders for the freedom of North Korea.
Jeong Kwang-il is North Korean defector and former prisoner living in South Korea who speaks about just how immensely impactful it is to simply smuggle films, soap operas, DVDs, and USB drive into North Korea.
If you play these videos back to back they'll be over 2 hours, so take your time.
I met many of the people in this thread in person. I was in the theater for some of these speeches. When I think of North Korea, I think of these brave people. North Korea isn't only Kim Jong Un - make these brave women & men known too. *Retweet the thread*.
By the time you get through just the first speech in this thread - just the first one - you will already *despise* Kim Jong Un, the Kim dynasty, everyone who apologizes for them, and anyone who seeks to legitimize them.
And yes, I'll be awaiting your comments and feedback on these statements.
Now view this statement from Trump in light of all of the above.
Ji Seong-Ho actually was present at the last State of the Union address. Trump recounted his story. Compare Trump's recent comments about Kim Jong Un and the North Korean regime to what he had said just a few months ago. What a disgrace.
