+1. At this point, it would be wise for American and North Korean officials to meet in Singapore on June 12, but not Trump and Kim themselves. Sweat the details, do the hard work, and do this right—no need for a dangerous leap of faith built on false expectations.
With less than a month out, there's a fat chance of this, of course. It's all-or-nothing at this point and that's a shame.
I spent all of 2017 making the case for why talks were the least-bad option with North Korea. My ongoing hesitation about the summit isn't because I oppose talks; it's because expectations are way off, the administration is unprepared, and Kim's counterparty is Trump.
