In first direct challenge to the Government's Universal Credit scheme, the High Court has ruled that the scheme unlawfully discriminated against disabled individuals. @LeighDay_Law and @matrixchambers acting.

Note by @matrixchambers provides clarity: Lack of transitional protection was challenged. Held to be unlawful as discriminatory & breached ECHR Art 14.

Govt has said law will be changed and transitional protection paid retrospectively. @EHRC intervening.

Court of Appeal rules @ukhomeoffice acted "unlawfully and unfairly" when deciding claims by child refugees in Calais. Court also held the Govt misled the High Court by a "serious breach of the duty of candour and co-operation by the Secretary of State".

Shameful behaviour by the Government - firstly, mistreating refugee minors & then misleading the High Court about how it had behaved and why.
So @ukhomeoffice admitted it refused to give the refugee children reasons why their claims were refused just so they could not take legal action against the Home Office.

As the court says, that is exactly why reasons must be given - so legal action can be taken, where needed!

In today's @DailyMailUK. @IpsoNews rules that the front page article with the headline "Another Human Rights Fiasco" had "serious and significant" errors. It was inaccurate and breached the Editor's Code. Mail forced to publish this ruling, with a reference on today's front page.
"The breach was serious and led to publication of seriously misleading information on an important subject. The misleading information was in a prominent position both in the article and in newspaper as a whole, and it substantially changed the meaning of the article": @IpsoNews
So @DailyMailUK's front page included the claim that he was an insurgent caught with a bomb. But didn't then say that a judge found that this allegation was "pure fiction". @IpsoNews found "the repetition of these serious allegations ... seriously misrepresented the judgment".

2. That may not seem like blundering. After all, that’s what Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said should happen in 2016. He said the Senate should *not even debate* the nomination of Merrick Garland until the next president is elected.
3. It was an unprecedented maneuver that has yielded unprecedented results. With Justice Neil Gorsuch on the bench, the high court has ruled against labor rights, voting rights and religious freedom (the Muslim ban).

Court rules: Your religion can't be used as an excuse to fire a transgender person.
Today the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled that R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes unlawfully discriminated against Aimee Stephens when it fired her after she told her employer that she would begin presenting as a woman because she is transgender.
The ruling affirms that transgender individuals are protected by federal sex discrimination laws, and that religious belief does not give employers the right to discriminate against them.
