Some advice to WH if so inclined (any inclination) for family unification or, at very least, family communication so parents have transparency. I may be shouting into the wind. But here's a cheat sheet. This isn't hard. It just takes focus. 1/
You have a new homeland security advisor and from the WH it will be essential to give him authority to organize a Task Force that ties in interagency (HHS, DHS and its components, state and local contacts in states that now have these kids, private facilities, etc). 2/
Merge the different databases. The state/local/private facilities need to be cross referenced with federal intake (if any) at border. Begin a narrative of each child. (yes I know I'm talking about kids so dont mean them to sound like commodities). 3/
That effort will begin to show different pools. (a)parents that have been deported and kid still here. (b)parents here in process and their kid elsewhere. (c)then the kids and parents who don't align (a parent not knowing where kid is and vice versa). 4/
The first pool seems easy enough to work with foreign country to return child if communication possible. The second pool should then allow parent/child to reunify or at least communicate. Get to FREAKING WORK on the third pool. Each of these kids has a parent. Find them. 5/
The WH has already lost its window in terms of making this easier: it does not appear there was any systematic identification or intake when the children were ripped from their parents. Ids, biometrics,blood, etc . . . none of it. But its not too late. 6/
I think you'll find the pools become more manageable then and then can focus on family reunification (even if in detention) or removal (as a unit or if parent already gone). 7/
Now there is no guidance on who is in charge: HHS or DHS. I'm pretty confident that will change and the furor about these kids will not subside. So start putting the pieces together. Treat kids as a commodity, a supply chain problem as little heart went into this before. 8/
It may be there is no serious attempt to do this, but I remain confident that WH will not survive the continuing criticism without at least trying. It may not come from a emotional place, maybe purely a political one. Regardless, it's not rocket science. Just logistics. 9/9
