Given direction debate is heading in UK, it's well worth re-reading Ts & Cs of DCFTA between EU and Ukraine. Would require regulatory alignment (but think we're pretty much there anyway) and pinking of ECJ red line. But crucially no freedom of movement. trade.ec.europa.eu/doclib/docs/20…
Why would EU give a country quitting same deal as one it wants to converge with, I hear you scream. EP's association agreement resolution (which, too, is always worth a re-read) opens the door. This is a document which has got some traction in Whitehall/No 10.
The appeal of an Association Agreement is (depending on what you put in it of course) it has the potential to be a neither truly hard nor soft Brexit. It's the middle way - a fudge that is firm on the outside but cuts like butter when you bite into it.
