A thread for th nuance-challenged and those who abide by the adage that anything worth doing is worth overdoing
We are not (at least, I am not) talking about gathering mobs and chasing people down the street with pitchforks
We have a long tradition of public demonstration and rebuke. Protests outside abortion clinics, for example, intended to make people feel uncomfortable
At the other extreme refusing to hire a Trump aide, declining to have them to your house, declining a dinner invitation where they are attending are all -- I hope -- perfectly justifiable ways of making a moral statement that they people have participated in great wrongdoing
So somewhere between mobs and throwing a birthday party for Sarah Huckabee Sanders is room for individual quiet and not so quiet acts of protest
In the case of the Red Hen the owner quietly took Huckabee outside and asked her to leave. No scene, no mob
No one should be harrassed with their children present. We care more about Trump aides' kids then they do about other peoples'
So: There should be room for social shunning and ostracism. People -- horror!! -- will need to use judgment, avoid scaring/upset innocent children and abide by all laws.
But pretending like this is all politics as normal, that every courtesy and social grace be extended to people who fans racist flames, take children from their parents, etc. is a moral abdication. I wouldn't have let Bull Connor eat in peace
That is all for now. Oh, and make sure you and everyone you know votes in Nov. because the way to really get them out of public life is to vote them out. END
