Basically, Reaganite conservatism had three pillars:

Pillar 1: Laissez-faire economics (failed with the financial crisis and Bush tax cuts)

Pillar 2: Muscular internationalism (failed with Iraq)

Pillar 3: Evangelical traditionalism (failed with the gay marriage defeat)
When all three pillars of Reaganite conservatism failed in quick succession in the 2000s, the grassroots barbarians of Trumpian racism and xenophobia - who had usually occupied a back seat in the party - rushed in to occupy the void.

The core of the Green New Deal - a huge industrial policy push for green energy that will also directly employ a lot of working-class Americans - is a very centrist idea, and not a new idea by any means.
That core idea is a GREAT one. And we absolutely NEED to do it.

But I think we shouldn't package that core idea with pie-in-the-sky income redistribution that has little to do with climate change:

I find that MMT proponents tend to imply - but only their most dedicated, aggressive internet trolls explicitly state - that inflation is an impossible thing, and not worth worrying about at all.

And given recent experience in America and Japan, people will believe it.
BUT, as Barro notes, MMT is helping push back against the more entrenched and even more intuitive fallacy of austerianism.

Adam asks a really great question here, and I'd like to offer something that many of us have been saying for going on three years now: Trump folks are not speaking from a place of consistent ideology. They're speaking from a place of petty hatred and resentment. (thread)
I feel like a lot of well-meaning reporters/journalists/pundits/politicians really want to make sense of all this and many of them still refuse to believe that Trump folks are just hateful people who prioritize their need to hate over common sense and integrity. Sorry but...
It really is that simple. This was never about so-called "economic anxiety". It was never about "feeling unheard". Trump folks feel the ground beneath their feet shifting away from White America, and it's that shifting of power that angers and terrifies them.

That date was 7/10/2018. Given that all domains were registered through GoDaddy’s anonymous registration service, WHOIS doesn’t tell us much. But the site is copywritten to @judicialnetwork, so we know they’re involved. Let’s take a look at the page source for the .com site:
Notice something? A template created for a Gorsuch themed site is being used for #Kavanaugh. Was there a confirmgorsuch(.)com too? Blank page currently, but sure enough one was setup 12/19/2016. And taken down 7/9/2018. Well, when did confirmkavanaugh(.)com go live?

Great question. Here’s how I’ve learned to answer it.

First, a portfolio is a container for stories that answer the hiring manager's primary question: "Do you have what I need for my open designer position?"
Thinking of the portfolio as a container of stories means we have to start with the stories themselves. (What good is a nicely designed gift box if we haven't thought about the gift inside?)
What story would tell a hiring manager what you could do for them?

• Does it tell them how you solve hard challenges?
• Does it tell them how you learn new things & apply what you've learned?

Can the hiring manager, after hearing the story, see you in their open position?
