Paying attention to shiny objects actually hurts substantive candidates.
It steals media attn. It starves people of substance from having a chance to rise.
1/
It sets a “likability” bar higher than REALLY qualified candidates can reach - even though that’s damaging.
2/
Say that out loud.
That’s what the Celebrity President fervor got us.
That’s what an infatuation with the guy on TV wrought.
3/
It doesn’t matter who the next figure is, if you know them only from TV, you’re doing the same thing.
4/
It damages the entire damn system.
It makes people stay home if they’re not “excited”.
It makes bad candidates win.
It is not benign. It’s a cancer.
5/
So, if you want to promote Avenatti or Oprah or Cynthia Nixon or any other illegitimate candidate made viable only by their celebrity, I’m gonna boot ya.
It ain’t personal.
6/
Fan club politics is a recipe for disaster. No. Just no.
