Most of you have had your porridge this morning and correctly answered that bicycle bells are a legal requirement when cycling.
Helmets & Hi-vis are not (trust me).

Here's what Irish Law says about having a bell on your bike.
I think it's important to point out that ringing a bell is meant to be an act of courtesy, rather than aggression. It's a polite way of saying "I'm here" as opposed to "GET OUT OF MY WAY!"
I think some people are reluctant to use their bells for fear of it being interpreted as aggression.
