Of course the timing is "suspect." That's how the media works. Outlets ignore a lot of low-level stories until it's clear they'd be high-level.
Example: I once had info about an individual. Not criminal, but unseemly and politically damaging. Reporters said, "Well, hold on to that. If s/he ever gets nominated for a Senate-confirmable position, we'll want to dig into it. Until then, readers/viewers don't really care."
The point is that reporters have a lot of dirt on a lot of people in Washington, but they don't do stories until the people are in the spotlight. Because until then, it doesn't get clicks.
You can get away with a lot of stuff and ascend pretty high in Washington. But if you want to be under the bright lights--like Speaker of the House--you gotta be squeaky clean. And Jordan isn't.
