Some quick thoughts on #chequers outcome...
1. There is more realism in it than we’ve seen before from UK government (though that’s not saying much!) - so, to that extent, hopefully a step forward. However...
2...still massive unresolved questions about acceptability to EU (it still reads like cherry picking and an attempt to divide four freedoms), deliverability (given the sheer complexities), and desirability (especially around impact on services - a real and profound concern)...
3. But perhaps key point is this - if this becomes the UK starting point in negotiations, it is surely game on for those who would prefer to see a full single market/customs union outcome.
4. And, of course, it still remains to be seen if PM can hold her dysfunctional party together on it.

1/ The UK government’s immigration proposals are an act of vandalism on the Scottish economy & public services. They will send our working population into decline, depress growth, reduce revenues & deprive us of the presence & contribution of people who want to build a life here
2/ @scotgov modelling shows that a 50% reduction in EU migration will send our working age population into decline. The estimate in this paper is that the UKG proposals could reduce EU/EEA migration to Scotland by 85%. That will devastate our economy and care sector.
3/ the hit to population and revenues is tangible. Less so - but still so important - is the loss to our society of hardworking people who enrich our society. And of course, ending free movement cuts both ways - we all lose our rights to live, work and study freely across the EU.

1/ If the UK government’s immigration paper is as expected it will be devastating for the Scottish economy - our demographics make it essential that we attract people to live & work here. A reduction of 80% in people coming here from EU will see our working age population decline
2/ Apart from the serious economic damage, these proposals send a terrible message that the UK is becoming less open and welcoming and more insular. Why any PM would want to claim this as a personal legacy is beyond me.
3/ in both the development and content of these proposals, Scotland’s interests have been ignored. If our economy and society are not to be damaged - and the net positive contribution EU nationals make not lost - we need control over these decisions in our own Parliament.

Not just commitment to same standards on goods (means efficiency, waste, chemicals, ewaste, etc standards all stay), but also firm commitment to high standards on environment and climate policy. #Chequers
EU is still never going to buy splitting goods and services, but still, what a huge step forward towards some form of pragmatism after so many wasted months.
Although, it could, of course, all fall apart at any time and the Hard Brexiters are not simply going to give up their pursuit of full blown deregulation.

Russia has a history of political assassinations, interfering in other countries & a total disregard for civilian life.
