Holding in my head and heart 2 harrowing things: the Thai gov't & so many others marshalling resources to get those kids back to their families, and our gov't tearing kids from theirs, with no plan to return them.
It's not just that we haven't *rescued* the migrant children. It's that we're the ones who kidnapped them in the first place. Reuniting them with their families isn't heroism-- it's the LEAST WE CAN DO for children we may be harming irreparably.
If you find yourself thinking, "if one of the [Thai kids in the cave] were mine," I'd do everything I could to get them out safely," remember that's what migrants escaping violence with their kids are doing. And in turn, our government stole the kids.
