Reading this remarkable book by Meena Rajadhyaksha titled "Dishonoured by History", a detailed account of the implementation of the Criminal Tribes Act in colonial India. Screenshots to follow, keeping in mind what the Brits say about having brought us the rule of law.

Thread.
British Rule of Law #1: Freedom of movement, British style.
British Rule of Law #2: The (imaginary) sins of the father visited upon the son.
British Rule of Law #3: "One man has been flogged fifteen times, another man six times. They are both now happily at work."
British Rule of Law #4: "To us they are cattle, just cattle."
British Rule of Law #5: Separation of children from their parents. You thought Trump did it? Rule-of-law loving Brits were masters of the art.
British Rule of Law #6: Sexual assault.
British Rule of Law #7: Literal concentration camps.
British Rule of Law #8: Labour shortage for your factory? Register a community under the Criminal Tribes Act.
British Rule of Law #9: We decide whom you shall marry.
British Rule of Law #10: Non-Brits need not apply.
There is 180 pages of this, and I could go on. Read the book.

German army soldiers are required to visit Auschwitz so that the gravity of Nazi crimes is remembered.

But the Brits put Churchill on their currency note, and their "human rights websites" praise him.
There is a point beyond which you cannot excuse historical amnesia, and must call it out for what it is - racism. So when someone talks smuggly about the "British tradition" of rule of law and human rights without accounting for this, they are no different from Nazi apologists.
