As a child I had a terrible fear that I might grow up to become the Antichrist. And a second thing worried me: if I’m predestined to be the Antichrist, what line of work should I go into? Should I be a German Chancellor, or a Catholic priest, or the drummer in a rock band?
Career paths for a Christian kid growing up in the 80s: faith healer, prophet to the nations, tent revivalist, missionary-martyr, the One Who Sets Up the Abomination of Desolation
The worst thing though was the big conspiracy between the Catholic Church, the European Union, barcodes, and yoga. So much evil, so little time left to combat it
Seriously though, I find it interesting that 80s Christian kids had such a strong sense of being personally predestined. Where this didn’t lead to pathological delusions, it probably fostered (in the long run) a healthy confidence and resilience
