Nia Wilson's murder is greater than racism. It is misogynoir. We have to talk about the intersection of blackness & womanhood at which black women are not being protected.
We've been saying for years that misogynoir is a dangerous hybrid of gender violence & racism and here is just *another* example of it.
Over a year ago, studies came out indicating that young black girls are seen as more mature/less deserving of protection.

But the focus is still often *just* racism and not how racism collaborates with sexism to motivate harm.
I spoke to Moya Bailey, the woman who coined the phrase "misogynoir", about its dangerous implications a year ago. It's a great starting place for people who don't understand misogynoir.

I don't know what is in the water tonight that put this back on Twitter again. Maybe @SenGillibrand leading a protest against #BrettKavanaugh. Maybe @TinaSmithMN being so obviously more engaged in that MN Senate seat than her predecessor.

I liked Al Franken's books. I never was a fan of his jocular sexism.But he didn't bother me in the Senate because he was a back bencher.

Unlike Kirsten Gillibrand, who spent the last decade being the loudest voice for sexual assault victims in Congress. She made it her focus.

This is a new low. In one of the latest Issa Rae defense pieces, again, instead of discussing the actual complaints they took one of the guys who tweeted innocuous criticism and used it to spin off an argument about black men being like potential incel mass shooters
It’s cool if they want to defend Issa Rae’s chapter, the discourse is good, but why in such a tacky bad faith way all the time?

I stand with black women.
I stood with black women in 2005.
I've stood with black women since I was a child & my parents were Civil Rights workers.
I will stand with black women till my last breath.
If you do NOT stand with black women, ask yourself why.
As a #lesbian, I hope people will stand with/for me.
They don't always, because being an ally takes work.
But I welcome allies, no matter how long it takes folks to get there.
We must believe in people being able to #change.
None of us has perfect politics nor personal lives.
Every day people change.
People who were racists realize they were wrong.
Men who were misogynists realize women are people.
Homophobes realize they were wrong.

We all have the power to realize we have been wrong and to change.
Embrace change.
It's how we heal the world.
