I think it's interesting that this surgeon phrases it as "mortality rates from gun violence remain unchanged [for the past 30yrs]." Everyone knows the per capita death rate has dropped, so she must be talking narrowly about % of ppl who survive getting shot, which IMO is hinkey.
In other words, if she was talking about what most ppl assume she's talking about, i.e. per capita deaths from guns, she'd have to concede it has gone way down. So she plays games. This one reason why pro-gun people don't trust these folks on this issue. The game playing.
If you can't make your case without playing hinkey word games, then you need to take another look at your case. FWIW I think she could've made the case she's trying to make without the word games. smh...
I think it's ironic that an editor let these monkey shines slide in an article about how reporters need to Do Better when covering gun violence. It gives one the impression that "Do Better" means only certain things, and not other things.
