I've got some calls out to confirm if they had a friendly relationship... if anyone in MI wants to dig in and do some research in the local paper from 1988-1991, that could prove quite useful.

Now, this is just a theory, but it would explain why Michael Cohen was so damn obsessed with keeping Maria's story quiet - PedoPhil tells buddy Cohen about the 1993 case, Cohen takes it to Trump promising to keep it quiet, right around the time Giordano gets picked up...
But it could explain why Cohen was so sensitive when he seems to have though the issue might be what was being addressed by @timkmak ... he didn't want anyone finding out how he got his job?
And, FWIW, Giordano was mayor of Waterbury from the mid-1990s until 2001, when he was arrested for serially raping a 9- and 11-yo girl, for which he is now serving a 37 year prison sentence.
