Re: speech the left has a mantra that I buy into: power relations matter. The relative positions of the person doing the speaking & the person being spoken of matter in evaluating the speech. But how do those same ppl decide that FB's booting Jones == no wedding cake 4 U.
Power matters, size matters, scale matters. FB and Twitter and AWS and Azure booting people is not the same as some small business refusing service to people whose politics it doesn't like. To suggest that it is is risible.
I think it's ridiculous to replace "white" with "black" in Jeong's tweets for the same reason I think it's ridiculous to pretend that FB is just some random private business, like a cake shop, that can just refuse service on arbitrary rounds. Again, scale matters.
It's ridiculous to pretend that Chase is just another bank that can do what it likes, and is not systemically important. Size and scale matter, especially when you operate at "planetary scale," as Google, FB, and some banks do.
