This this this. People didn’t not realize at the time that slavery or the pass system or residential schools or Jim Crow laws were bad, it just wasn’t a view held by the white patriarchy. Other people existed and cared and knew it was wrong all along.
This is exactly why perspective is key to historical narratives! History isn’t a series of names and dates and shit didn’t just happen. People did things. Others disagreed. There has never been monolithic opinions. White people just rarely cared about including BIPOC opinions
And for that matter actively erased them from history to propagate a narrative that European white men were the only ones who ever contribute to society culture science, whatever. Preventing people from participating and then erasing them doesn’t mean they didn’t contribute

The Basics of Digital Archiving: A Thread. There will be many analogies to physical archives. It will not mention technologies/software at all. The tech details will be simplified (for your reading pleasure and based on my own knowledge).
First: what content am I talking about? Born digital and digitized material (not going there on the "what is a record?" debate), under the stewardship of an archive, museum, special collection, or library. I am NOT talking about the "archive" button of your email or your laptop.
What is archiving? Preserving and providing access. That doesn't change just because something is digital. It looks different, but the goals are the same. Preservation means storage, security, integrity, conservation, etc.

Copyright in archives (specifically Canadian context here): how do for born digital records? They were never published or monetized in the first place and often only having meaning in context.
I’m trying to work through this to figure out something that isn’t a computer access point in a reading room. Because while that technically works, it’s not user friendly or accessible.
Thinking of putting together a copyright something for #aca2019 @archivistsdotca. Would people be interested? What would you want it to cover? Who would be good to have on a panel?

We're going to start at the beginning. What is an archive? An archive is the documents and records created by a person or institution during the course of their life and/or work. Also the location (physical or digital) where all of these ‘archives’ are stored.

Just for a bit of balance when I was trying to get out of special ‘schooling’ in the 1980s none of the local public schools in Campbelltown NSW would take me. Only a local Marist school was accessible & made the effort #schools #education
The principal of one public school looked at me, snorted and said ‘well what are we going to do with this little problem hey?’
The second public school said I’d have to skip maths & science classes and do them in a corridor or the library
