This is a good piece from @Musa_alGharbi of @HdxAcademy. Quite a few people have claimed that the data shows “liberal” faculty are fired at a higher rate than “conservative” faculty. It does not, as Musa emphasizes.

But a few further points:
I’ve noticed Hdx members make this point (concession?) quite a bit lately. I find it baffling, especially considering the stress Hdx has placed in the past on opinion data from FIRE, Cato, and Knight, to say nothing of its own survey. More needs to be said about this, please.
Second, this exact same charge can be made against FIRE’s Disinvitation Database. Hell, I’ve made it myself. But neither I, nor I expect Musa, would recommend against drawing some conclusions from it, however couched in caveats they might be.
Third, about the Stouffer Questions. Musa’s critique is good, but I don’t think we should be so quick to dismiss them. It’s too complicated for Twitter, but we basically need a much finer grain analysis to say with confidence that the changing attitudes don’t reflect tolerance.
Lastly, to return to faculty terminations: I’d just warn once again against drawing too strong a conclusion (eg ratios) from the data. Collection problems are rife. Hopefully more analysis can correct this.
But anyway, a really good piece.
