Broadcast last night by @TheYoungTurks: “Republicans ADMIT they’re coming for your Social Security and Medicare.“ Almost 50,000 views as I write this.
@AnaKasparian (45sec): “It is going to add $1.9 trillion to our federal deficit over the next 10 years.”

Why is increasing the deficit a bad thing? Yes, it should go to the many, not just funneled to the few, but what specifically is wrong with an increasing deficit?
Without a deficit, the American people have no value. They have no investments, no bank account, nothing in their wallet. Without a deficit, the American people are completely choked off from their government. Without a deficit, we have no society.
@repstevestivers (1:45): “The only way we are going to be able fix Social Security and Medicare is for the two parties to come together [and dramatically reduce benefits]."
@cenkuygur (2:00): “We told you they would come for your Social Security and Medicare, and they are. They HAD to find a $1.9 trillion for the rich. So now that all that money is gone, all of a sudden, now they’re looking to rob you of all the money you paid into these programs."
@AnaKasparian (2:40): "That money gets taken out of your paycheck because you pay for it. So this is robbery. By BOTH parties."
What exactly is "broken" about Social Security and Medicare? All federal programs are directly funded by the federal government. Whenever Social Security benefits are paid, it is done so – every single time – by CREATING THE CURRENCY.
The only way to “defund” Medicare is for Congress to CHOOSE to change the SS law, to FORCE the SS Administration to give our seniors less and less benefits.

Privatize: “defund,” sabotage, look back and say “Oh no! It’s broken. Guess we have to privatize (and profit off of!) it.”
Despite having been told this for our entire lives by our politicians, media, education system, and so-called experts, FICA/payroll taxes do not pay for, and have never paid for Social Security.
FDR himself said that FICA taxes were a political trick to make the American people FEEL invested, and therefore make it more difficult for it to be taken away (he never said “economic right“!). forbes.com/sites/jeffreyb…
For all federal programs:

There is no pot of money to steal from.

There is no pot of money to empty or “go broke.”

There is no pot of money to borrow from.
Yes, they ARE coming for our Social Security and Medicare. They do indeed want to privatize it. But they are not doing it because it is somehow economically necessary. There is no external “concerning” economic factor that is out of their control.
They are coming for these programs because they want to. Let’s stop talking about how we “should” be spending the money and instead just get these corrupt politicians out of office and replace them with those who actually care about the people.
