Amal Fathy is an Egyptian activist who was arrested for posting an online video about her sexual harassment.

In response, Fathy received threats and calls for her arrest — and has been detained for months without trial.

Fathy has remained in pre-trial detention as the government has stacked ever more absurd charges against her, including “broadcasting a video on social media to incite the overthrow of the Egyptian government,” and “misuse of social media.” amnesty.org/en/latest/news…
In her video, posted two days before her arrest, Fathy, a former member of the April 6 youth movement, described being groped by a taxi driver, and then later that day witnessing a bank guard grab his crotch while making lewd comments about her. thedailybeast.com/sexually-haras…
"It is a dark day when the Egyptian authorities are more concerned with silencing a woman who speaks out about sexual harassment than taking steps to address the issue,” said Najia Bounaim of @amnesty about Fathy’s arrest.

@BFMradio :: The letter is addressed to members of the media. Not to members of the public. Regardless of good intention, fwding the letter to those other than intended reader is to violate the writer’s agency. If you want to help, don't start by disregarding what the writer intends.
@BFMradio The writer is already aware of the high cost s/he may face for disclosing this. Exposing wrongful power practices - and sexual harassment is a form of wrongful practice of power - is always risky.

Immediately after Jamal shared my column, i was inundated with one of the worst and most coordinated attacks by #Saudi regime trolls I have ever experienced. For days. It was a window into how much shit he and other Saudis who are critical got and continue to get.

Now discussing menstruation. Many of them are saying they get happy when the period is not coming - aren’t we all! But discussing the need for regular periods and does skipping a period mean pregnancy?

In many ways, graduate school is designed to make students feel like impostors. It's a common experience, but it can be particularly damaging for members of groups that have traditionally lacked access to the higher ranks of our discipline. I’ll focus on women here. 2/n
For these folks, the feeling that they have “faked” or “charmed” their way into graduate school (or the #tenuretrack, etc.) can override objective evidence of their own diligence, intellect, and merit. 3/n
