1/ Every week, we’re tracking the world of white supremacy in The Hate Report.

Today: How white nationalist propaganda makes its way all the way to the White House. revealnews.org/blog/the-hate-…

2/ Earlier this week, President Trump tweeted about the plight of white farmers in South Africa:
3/ Trump’s tweet came after he watched @TuckerCarlson talk about the issue on Fox News.

It’s a long-standing narrative in the white supremacist community.
4/ For example: A photo of Dylann Roof, who massacred nine people at a predominately African American church in South Carolina, showed a flag of South Africa’s apartheid government on his jacket, indicating a clear affinity with the racist regime. vox.com/2015/6/18/8806…
5/ If whites in South Africa are treated so poorly after handing over power to the country’s black majority, the story goes, it’s just a preview of what could happen in the rest of the world as more diverse voices are allowed into the political conversation.
6/ This fear has been given a name: white genocide.
7/ But here's the thing: There’s no evidence of such a genocide. Here are some good pieces to read on this:

@vox: vox.com/policy-and-pol…

@quartzafrica: qz.com/africa/1297437…

@AfricaCheck: africacheck.org/factsheets/fac…
8/ Trump likely isn’t digging through obscure white supremacist websites for his views on global politics. Instead, many of the storylines circulating through those communities are being repeated on @FoxNews shows like Tucker Carlson’s nightly program.
9/ As the @thedailybeast reports, Carlson has propagated white nationalist narratives, like “the collapse of the American family,” “changing demographics in America” and how Latinx school children will result in “Arizona’s future as a Hispanic society.” thedailybeast.com/tucker-carlson…
10/ On the far-right social network Gab, there are user-created groups devoted to largely positive discussions about Carlson’s show. Other groups on the site include those celebrating neo-Nazi ideology and another that functions as job search boards exclusively for whites.
11/ However, not every white supremacist narrative runs through the account of Twitter’s most famous user. Other stories about hate can only be uncovered by digging through far more obscure datasets.
