1. I carried first pro LEO leg by Dems in CA for decades including making murder of a police officer capital offense same as murder of pol/judge. Gang 5 took on both parties & WON w pro law enforcement push by us against residual 60/70s anti LEO feeling still horny w colleagues
2. I opposed NAFTA. Bill flew me to Mx to meet w Mx Pres. John Conyers w me. Cemented our view NAFTA was bad for American workers. Bill brought HEAVY pressure including having Ernest Gallo (winery) call & demand I vote yes. I told Ernest he was being traded off. He later agreed
3. I formed Blue Dogs. I am THE Blue Dog. We passed Welfare Reform Clinton followed after 94 massacre. We worked w Bill to balance budget. I worked w Newt in support of his positions.
4. I voted AGAINST repeal of Glass Steagall/Citi Act. Bankers made it so complicated, clear they won. Bill & Republicans brought HEAVY pressure & I voted NO. Surprised people because I was “mod” or “libertarian.” My answer: I don’t trust leg regular folks can’t understand.
5. I voted FOR first Iraq war/Desert Storm. Bush Sr met me inside Gym in Rayburn Building. Was thrown off because he asked to meet in steam room & was nude when I joined. In our nudeness that man explained our treaty w Kuwait & gave his word we’d stop when done. Man of his word
6. When Bill & Monica lit fire I asked to be moved of Gov Reform Comm. Told @dickgephardt I didn’t come to Congress to discuss Blow Jobs all day. Dems LINED up to take my place/trade positions. Gov reform front seat MSM because of @MonicaLewinsky. That’s how I got to Intel Comm
7. As soon as I got to Intel Comm they briefed us on Yugoslavia / Milosevic. These guys were horny for war. We spent $$$ to secretly buy media outlets in Macedonia & other countries to destabilize the region / FUEL the civil discord. First met Sidney Blumenthal.
8. I thought this was an odd foreign policy for America. I preferred sunshine policy. They laughed. We FAUGHT. Nasty. Bill couldn’t get a YES vote from Congress for his war because of me. Or from UN because of me. They thought I’d be hawk. Pissed I was a Dove. Ask Hosni et al...
