i want to take a minute to recognize the amazing, beautiful, resilient, and powerful community i am a part of. the way the state behaved last night, arresting mothers in front of their children at a school board meeting, was appalling, but unsurprising. that's not the story.
what i saw last night was a community that is building relationships, skills, and power outside the state. people organizing and coming together to speak truth to power but also to create our own. people taking care of each other and radically loving one another.
i saw people put their bodies between comrades and police. i saw people bravely, unflinchingly, face police brutality for using their voice. but i also saw this community mobilize, almost effortlessly. a completely organic display of solidarity and love.
dozens of people appeared at the jail, most bearing supplies - umbrellas, food, water, bond money, anything anyone needed somehow materialized. hot & sweaty from the un-air conditioned jail or cold & wet from standing in the rain, we embraced each other.
the revolution won't be next week, or even next year, but we are building more than momentum. we are building something the state cannot break.
