1)I don't have too many followers but I would appreciate if you could RT.

My Great Uncle Eion passed away a fortnight ago, when sorting his things we found his #WW2 diary. From 17yo he fought across Europe and Africa. A true #British hero who gave my generation lasting #peace.
2) Jan 27th was the first time he was wounded. Less than a year after joining the Para's.

By the end of April he was on the front lines at the infamous battle for Monte Cassino. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of…
3) I've been told by those who have served in different branches of the military that one of the toughest things they have to deal with is when the promise of being relieved from the front line is cancelled. It happened to my Uncle. A lot.
4)A night hiding as German patrols search the area. He had been shot for the second time.

His life was like a war movie. I find it hard to imagine regular folk like me in such a situation. But, that's who he was, just a regular person fighting for #freedom. Beautiful
5) 18th December entry is heart breaking
6) Some well deserved R&R before the next push
7)Of all the war stories, the one he LOVED to tell us was when he spent time in #London. During a Nazi bombing raid he didnt know where to go, a young London couple showed him a shelter in the Underground. They danced and sang the night away. #British spirit against German bombs.
8)Back to war... this time at the other side of the world.
9)After three years of fighting the war is almost over. Eion never saw large scale warfare again. Thank God.
10)He moved to the #UnitedStates with his wife Cathie. After many happy years they moved back to #Scotland where Cathie died in early 2000. That was almost 20 years ago.

Wherever they are they must have a lot to catch up on. RIP Eion
