LIVE BLOG - Day 3 of the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Kavanaugh jamiedupree.blog.ajc.com/2018/09/06/liv…
The hearing is starting with a battle over documents, as Sen Corey Booker D-NJ says he will release a Kavanaugh email, even if it's against the rules of the Senate
Booker says he knows the ultimate penalty for his action could be expulsion from the Senate, as Senators spar over "committee confidential" documents
Some of these "committee confidential" documents are now leaking out - the NY Times has posted some this morning int.nyt.com/data/documenth…
This is the passage that is attracting attention - where Kavanaugh in a 2003 email showed he did not regard Roe v Wade as "settled law"
We are one hour into today's hearing, and Judge Kavanaugh has not said anything, as the spat continues over releasing his emails. jamiedupree.blog.ajc.com/2018/09/06/liv…
As Kavanaugh finally speaks for the first time today, two demonstrators start yelling and get hauled out by police
Sen Feinstein immediately quotes from one of the Kavanaugh emails, asking about his 2003 views on Roe v Wade, and whether it is settled law
Kavanaugh tells Feinstein Roe v Wade is an "important precedent of the Supreme Court"
Feinstein presses - 'is it correct law?' - Kavanaugh says he will not answer directly, says he won't give a 'thumbs up or thumbs down' on Roe or other issues
Asked by Sen Hatch, Kavanaugh says he has not had any inappropriate conversations with anyone about the Mueller investigation
With the Senate Judiciary Committee in a quick lunch break, Senate Democratic Leader Schumer criticizes Kavanaugh's answers in a speech on the Senate floor - "He's ducking. He's hiding"
Oddly enough, Republicans are asking a lot of questions of Kavanaugh today about how to deal with investigations of a President
Democrats now pulling out emails from Kavanaugh which they say don't match his testimony from back in 2004
If you had former Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes on your Kavanaugh hearing bingo card, you win (mentioned by Sen Ben Sasse R-NE)
Senate Judiciary Committee is still posting/releasing Kavanaugh emails as his testimony winds down
Sen Jeff Flake R-AZ presses Kavanaugh again on him saying that Nine Eleven changed how he viewed the issue of investigations of Presidents
Here's part of that Minnesota Law Review article that Kavanaugh wrote minnesotalawreview.org/wp-content/upl…
Sen Blumenthal: Have you ever talked about Mueller probe with people in White House? Kavanaugh: "I'm not remembering any discussions"
Blumenthal and Kavanaugh go around a few times, and Blumenthal labels Kavanaugh's answers 'ambiguous'
Blumenthal then asks about President Trump's verbal jabs at federal judges - unlike Gorsuch, Kavanaugh refuses to comment
Kavanaugh tells Senators it just didn't feel right, so he stopped voting in elections soon after he became a federal judge
Kavanaugh pressed repeatedly by Sen Booker D-NJ: "You should conclude respectfully that I have the independence required to be a good judge," Kavanaugh said.
Kavanaugh rebuffs Booker's call to recuse himself from any decisions involving the Mueller investigation
Sen Kamala Harris D-CA now back with her question from last night about whether he discussed the Mueller case with lawyers at Kasowitz firm.
Kavanaugh first asks Harris who he supposedly spoke to - Harris presses for an answer, the judge finally just says 'no' - and Harris moves on to other subjects.
Harris repeatedly pressing Kavanaugh on the Obergfell decision on same-sex marriage. Kavanaugh says it is precedent, but won't say if he supports it.
Chairman Grassley says there will be a third round of questions. Sounds like the hearing is headed past 9 pm at least
Kavanaugh hearing still going. Still unanswered inside-the-Beltway question - his switch from Congressional to Chevy Chase
Kavanaugh has repeatedly been given the chance to weigh in on a variety of President Trump's tweets and statements, and has refused every time
The public hearing is over - Sen Charles Grassley R-IA says Kavanaugh had a 'powerful and convincing' case that he deserves Senate approval
There will now be a short closed hearing. Tomorrow will feature outside witnesses, as Kavanaugh's testimony is done.
If you missed the over 12 hours of testimony - you can review the highlights here jamiedupree.blog.ajc.com/2018/09/06/liv…
The White House has just issued a statement on the Kavanaugh testimony
