17 years ago, my city and our country changed forever. Today, we remember the sacrifice & loss of those on and after #September11th. #NeverForget
New Yorkers and the rest of the country will #NeverForget the bravery so many showed - especially our first responders - on that terrible day.
That’s why I was proud to have worked to pass the #Zadroga Act to take care of their health and offer our first responders justice.
As @USATODAY reported, “By the end of 2018, many expect that more people will have died from their toxic exposure from 9/11 than were killed on that terrible Tuesday.”

Hard to believe Senate Republicans are trying again to vote on the nomination of Thomas Farr as a federal judge in NC. Farr's represented the NC legislature in not 1, not 2, but 3 challenges to the state’s 2011 congressional and legislative redistricting. Here’s how that went:
In 2016-17, Farr represented NC in Covington v. NC, a challenge to the state’s 2011 legislative redistricting alleging each of NC’s 19 state House districts & 9 state Senate districts constituted a racial gerrymander violating the Equal Protection Clause. brennancenter.org/legal-work/nor…
In Covington v. NC, Farr argued that race was not the primary factor used in the redistricting. And even if it was, Farr argued the NC legislature’s use of race was reasonably necessary to comply with the Voting Rights Act. The trial court rejected this argument.

Farr is a serious threat to voting rights. Americans need to tell Senate Republicans to block this nomination.
Farr defended the Republican-controlled North Carolina Legislature in a challenge to the restrictive voting laws it enacted shortly after the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Roberts, gutted the Voting Rights Act.
After gathering data on the use of certain voting practices broken down by race, the North Carolina Legislature drafted a law that targeted voting practices like early voting and same-day registration that were disproportionately utilized by African-American voters.

The American people should look at what Republicans are doing, rather than what they’re saying, when it comes to health care.
Republicans are once again undermining protections for people with pre-existing conditions and sabotaging our health care system.
Today, the administration plainly admitted its intention is to use taxpayer dollars to fund junk insurance plans that don’t cover pre-existing conditions, which could lead to medical bankruptcy for many American families in order to pad the pockets of health insurance executives.

Just re-heard te firefighter who described being on their way up (from lobby) and "the floor collapsed beneath us, it gave way".

We know it wasnt just the planes. They have lied...
to us at every step of the way. All to consolidate and enact a police and surveillance state.

And now its being used against those people. The weapons they designed to enslave and imprison, control us are the weapons of their downfall.

Seventeen years ago, on the second floor of Paul VI Catholic High School during second period English my senior year, I rushed to the window and looked east down Lee Highway to see if there was smoke along the horizon from the Pentagon as my teacher turned on the TV.
The principal had broke the mundanity of that Tuesday morning with a short announcement over the PA just before @DanRather informed my class that our country was under attack.
The first tower: a horrible accident.
The second tower: it’s war.
The Pentagon: our defense.
Somerset, PA: our fellow Americans fought back.
One of my senior classmates burst into tears in the hallway on the first floor as she had family from the Philippines visiting the WTC.

The attacks 17 years ago are the only traumatic event I can think of that people constantly urge others to remember.

I envy the kids too young to recall it or have an emotional connection to it.

Those who lived through it don't need to be told to #neverforget

How could they?
If you want to teach kids about something to #neverforget how about never forgetting that we're still involved in the war that sprung from those attacks, 17 years later, with no end in sight.

We've rebuilt ground zero, but we haven't rebuilt our interest in foreign incursions.
Never asking Americans to sacrifice anything other than 1% of their sons and daughters.

Never questioning why we're still there & when we'll leave.

Never paying attention to the longest war in our history once the initial invasion happened.

At this time, 17 years ago, I was sitting in homeroom, and my dad was sitting on a commuter train, heading to his office at 2 World Trade Center, the South Tower.
At this time 17 years ago, my dad’s train was going through the tunnel from Queens to Penn Station. 3 planes with hijackers were already in the air. 1 had already been hijacked.

I was in first period math.

At this time 17 years ago, my dad’s express train arrived in Penn. He navigated the commuter foot traffic and hopped on his subway downtown. His subway stop was directly below his office at 2 WTC, the South tower.

I was trying not to get lost en route to gym class
