@aeryn_thrace Most science journalism articles ignore how the information was gathered, the details of the studies, etc.
@aeryn_thrace When we aggregate the weak evidence-based teaching situation, with the assumptions about reading, and the incorrect framing of science as facts instead of as process, we have what amounts to a pedagogical disaster. Not just any disaster, but an elephant in the room.
@aeryn_thrace For those unfamiliar with the metaphor:

"an elephant in the room" in English. If you say there is an elephant in the room, you mean that there is an obvious problem or difficult situation that people do not want to talk about.
@aeryn_thrace We know that something is deeply wrong because science students can't write well, and there is a recalcitrant pandemic of plagiarism.

Although we have well-funded writing centres at most universities, the problems persist.
