A Manafort cooperation deal with Mueller (providing interviews, turning over documents, and testifying in future proceedings) is something I never thought I would see. Manafort has DEEP ties to the Kremlin and would have been considered a trusted conduit for information.
Manafort's deep ties to the Kremlin are the very reason I never thought Manafort would flip. His operational knowledge of Russian influence in Ukraine and the Russian meddling in the 2016 election is likely extensive and includes A LOT of sensitive geopolitical skeletons.
Moreover, I never considered Manafort flipping to be a likely scenario is that the very depth of his potential knowledge about Russian meddling and sensitive information about Russia going back decades makes him a possible target of Russian assassination should he know too much.
We have all seek what happens to ex-associates of the Kremlin suspected of cooperating with the west or just just knowing too much while living outside of Putin's control. Sergei Skripal's poisoning with the nerve agent Novichok is just the most recent high profile example.
Another high profile example of the Kremlin eliminating fmr associates is the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko with radioactive polonium-210, leaving radioactive trails across London. Suffice it to say Putin has no qualms abt killing ppl who cross Russia in a public manner.
