Yet another article examining the role and responsibility of the two soda giants wrt music, but when exactly will our local media own up to the fact that they have absolutely and utterly abandoned the local music scene?

RJs and music journalists have seen their employers lap up huge amounts of money to play Coke Studio and Pepsi BoTB on-air, but have never used this largesse to also focus on non-branded music.
When was the last time you saw non-sponsored music reviewed in the papers? When was the last time you heard non-branded music on the airwaves?

And when journos do write on music, they once again focus on the acts from the 2000s and what they are up to.
Local rappers like Young Desi or Young Stunner rack up millions of plays yet never, ever get any exposure from local media.

You see the same old shit over and over again, featuring the same old faces.
There are notable exceptions, esp @maheensbh but by and large our FM channels and newspapers have abandoned the music scene.

A lot of this bitterness comes from my Patari years, where I regularly sent out press releases that were never published.
@maheensbh Really struggle to accept critique of the soda giants from people who have themselves abdicated their roles. Wake me up when someone takes music seriously.
@maheensbh Just remembered something.

Over the past 18 months, @LugRapperz have headlined LMM, IMKHI & Mad Decent Block Party; they've won an LSA and performed there; they've appeared on Coke Studio; and they've released several hit songs.

Yet no one in Pak has done a feature on them.
@maheensbh @LugRapperz I mean, they've been covered in the UK and Canadian press during this time, but can't find space on local papers and FM unless Coke pays them to play their CS song.

An indigenous music scene from a working class neighborhood featuring self-taught teenagers but still, no coverage
