1/3 - In its deceptive NORTH KOREA story today, @nytimes describes @CSIS as "a major think tank in Washington" but doesn't disclose that its top funders include major US military contractors deeply involved in Korea and Northeast Asia. nytimes.com/2018/11/12/us/…
2/3 The top US contractors that donate to @CSIS include Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, General Dynamics, L-3, Rockwell, General Atomics, and Booz Allen. CSIS is also funded by two Asian giants: Japan's Mitsubishi and South Korea's Samsung. csis.org/support-csis/o…
3/3 It is absolutely shameful for the Times not to disclose the true nature of @CSIS, its donor base, and its dominant role in shaping US policy in Korea. Unfortunately, the @nytimes dropped its public editor in 2017. So who takes responsibility for this deception, @nytimes?

The evil & hypocrisy of these companies is amplified by their role in DC think tanks. Take Raytheon, which designed the targeting software on the Yemen bombs in the NYT story. Its board chairman, Stephen Hadley, is chairman of the board of the US Institute of Peace. Mockery. 2/3

Last night an @NPR reporter was saying that McCain would find humor in the Vietnamese referring to US bomber pilots as 'pirates." It was a common term, and deadly accurate. This is a replica of a US plane from the war, made from the metal of an actual shot-down aircraft.
This was given to my late father by a young South Vietnamese student taking my dad's class on Vietnam at a Tokyo university. I sat in on the class (1967 - I was in HS) & got to know the student. I suspect he was sent to study in Japan by the NLF. The plane now sits on my desk.
In this context, it's interesting to see the very conciliatory statement from Vietnam's ambassador to the US on McCain and his "very special position in the history of the Viet Nam." Maybe we can learn something from their willingness to forgive. vietnamembassy-usa.org/news/2018/08/s…

Here’s some thoughts on Kim and Trump after covering the US and North Korea for the past 18 months for @thenation.
1. There was a turning point last July when North Korea said in response to US flights of B1-B bombers over Korean skies that it was considering sending a missile toward Guam. Then, when the US let it be known that its next military exercises might be scaled down, NK backed off.
2. The exercises, however, were only diminished in size. But the US and South Korea continued to train in decapitation strikes of North Korea’s leadership, with SEAL Team 6 on one of the US submarines. NK responded with its longest missile test yet and a bomb test.
