We are starting our first lecture of the fall series. Carolina Guerrero is being introduced by @umbc Assistant Prof. Thania Muñoz D. @MunozDaz1, who reminds us of the history of #HispanicHeritageMonth #humforum18

There was a lot of resistance for a Spanish-language audio project in the US. #humforum18
We do personal journalism. We want people to tell us stories and feelings. #humforum18
We are a team of 14 people working from all across the world: New York, Bogotá, Mexico. We utilize different work elements such a @SlackHQ or @Dropbox
Guerrero: Most stories take 2-3 months, but some take 1-2 years to complete because of all the research involved. #humforum18
Guerrero: Funders and investors often discount us because we are Spanish-language. No! We are the same and want the same level of funding. #humforum18
Despite these issues, @radioambulante has grown since 2011 #humforum18. @ThisAmerLife has 1 million downloads per episode.
Guerrero: Our audience spans more than 100 countries and a large portion of our American population consists of non-native Spanish speakers (typically people who are learning Spanish) #humforum18
We have succesful partnerships with @NPR and @Radiolab. We co-produced a story called Los sobrevivientes that was published in English for Radio Lab and in Spanish for @radioambulante radioambulante.org/en/audio-en/tr…
Guerrero: We are working on many projects, including Escuela Radio Ambulante which will train Latinx journalists to create their own podcasts and the business element. escuelaradioambulante.org
