I mean, I am not a layer, but the person Wheland falsely accused of being Kavanaugh's evil twin/the "real" rapist is not a public figure. Ergo, you only need to prove negligence, not reckless disregard or actual malaice. (tho' that standard too seems possible here)

and, it's not just Wheland that faces exposure but any news organization (or anyone really) who amplified?

Anyhoo, not sure why the Georgetown Prep guy who Wheland smeared wouldn't sue, and the discovery could be a bananas situation, pulling in god knows who (named a couple of contenders in this thread already)
