Kavanaugh now says, of Dr. Ford, that he "may have met her" (Fox News). But given that they went to different schools, and given *when* they were at those schools, doesn't that suggest that if they did meet it was, uh... at a party in the early eighties, exactly as Ford has said?
/ He hedged about meeting her, which is odd, as it's unclear in what other setting but a party he'd ever think himself to have encountered her. She says it was ONLY that party, so it's not like he HAS to hedge his bets that way, i.e. she's not going to suddenly say, "At church!"
/ My point is, to an investigator, his statement that he may have met her means he realizes he may have met her at a party in the early 80s like she says. But then he returns to his legalistic statement that he never "sexually assaulted" anyone, which in this context is evasive.
/ He heavily lawyers the party's location, almost like if he can state it with *great precision* he can credibly, confidently, and honestly say he wasn't at *that* party. The problem: he avoids making a blanket denial regarding a party with those attendees or more general facts.
/ Also stunning: when it's revealed that Kavanaugh's Yale roommate heard Ramirez's accusation of sexual assault and basically said, "that fits." Imagine your college roommate having that sense of you and how you treat women. Kavanaugh's answer to that claim was unnervingly bad.
/ I want to be careful about how I say this next thing, but the fact is that after representing more than 2,000 criminal defendants I can say a *common* excuse is, "Had I done that, it would've been a bigger deal/made a bigger wound/&c." Kavanaugh goes to that well *repeatedly*.
/ His claim he couldn't have sexually assaulted Ramirez because it would've been all the talk at Yale is so consistent with the sort of laughably stereotypical nonexculpatory phrases we hear from arrestees that I can't believe anyone who coached him allowed him to say it *once*.
/ I don't claim to know what happened between Kavanaugh and Ford or Kavanaugh and Ramirez or Kavanaugh and the 3rd/4th accusers or Kavanaugh and the women alleging he orchestrated gang rapes but I can say that the facts of this case would make law enforcement *very* suspicious.
/ And I don't think it was smart for Kavanaugh to say over and over that he was able to get 65 women to speak to his good character in high school "overnight." That suggests the effort started before Kavanaugh says it did. Someone was hunting for women to speak to his character.
/ When McCallum asked why, if he never did anything like this, and wasn't even present at the places he's alleged to have been at, he wouldn't call for a *full investigation*, his shocking response was, "I just want to be heard." So he wants *no* normal investigative process.
/ In fact, his gravest interview error was acknowledging that artificially creating a "he said, she said" situation by *intentionally avoiding a conventional investigation* would constitute "bare minimum" due process. And he's right about that much; it's *skeletal* due process.
/ Watch the FNC interview (below) for yourself and see how robotic and false and canned and over-coached he seems. His answers on his Yale frat are *so implausible* as to be actually offensive. No one would watch this and think he was being candid. /end
