I'm sorry, @Twitter. Can we please get an updated #meToo emoji that doesn't look like a raw vagina on a retina screen?

Make it bold. We're not raising our hands to be called on... we're coming out to TAKE BACK our power.

The cultural connotations behind the icon you've selected imply weakness and passivity.

No More Pink.

Red to show the rage we feel at not being listened to before;
Orange, for the fire we'll use to burn out the injustice;
Yellow, for the sunlight we're throwing onto the dark places.

No pastels, no cool colors. We don't need to be sedated or calmed.

And no black - because there is hope, and not just despair.

Make our symbol one that it can be seen clearly and understood. One that announces our presence, and the change we aim to make in our world, to prevent others from being subject to the same inequalities and disregard that got us here.

Make our symbol full of anger and passion and ACTION, with bold corners and colors,
not round and pastel and passive with a cursory nod at racial diversity that you can't even see at resolution...

And make our symbol one that recognizes that women and girls aren't the only victims of sexual assault... that presents a false dichotomy that obfuscates the narrative that rape and related offenses are primarily a question of POWER, not one of sexual gratification.

But for god's sake, don't diminish us by coloring us as being no more than a gaping vagina, or a bunch of women raising our hands, waiting for someone else to take action.

Because we're done waiting.

We're standing up. We're watching. We're sharing with each other.

We're not going to be polite, we're not going to be demure, and we're not going to stop until the those abusing our bodies to usurp our power fall to their knees in supplication.

So let's get an icon that illustrates who we are, and what we're doing.
