Golden throne in Mysuru palace is a symbol of prosperity, and authority enjoyed by Mysuru Kings who ruled for nearly 700 years. The golden throne is being assembled in Mysuru palace today for Dasara celebrations. 
Twenty two Mysuru kings have sat on this 250 kg golden throne, and ruled over earlier Mysuru Kingdom. The golden throne is opened every year during Dasara for the Pvt durbar of Mysuru King.
Simhasana, has 3 parts, main seat, steps leading to the main seat, and the resting support for the main seat. These are covered by an umbrella. Simhasana has Brahma, Vishnu & Maheshwara, and four lions symbolising victory. The umbrella has 94 lines of Sanskrit shlokas.
The Simhasana was made from the wood of Anjura tree, & decorated with pieces of ivory. Mummady Krishnaraja vodeyar, added Navaratnas to the Simhasana and made it Navaratna Khachita.
It is believed that the Simhasana belongs to the Pandavas & Dharmaraja was using this in Hastinavati. Seems King of Kampli(near Bellary now), Kampilaraya used this Simhasana, for 13 years while ruling from Penukonda in AP. For some unknown reason he had hidden this in underground
Shringeri seer Vidyaranya through his powers came to know about this hidden Simhasana in Penukonda & instructed the founders of Vijayanagara empire Hakka & Bukka to fetch & ascend this Simhasana, and blessed them to rule over the Vijayanagara(known as Karnata) kingdom in 1336 CE.
After the collapse of the Vijayanagara empire, Tirmalaraya's son Srirangaraya, moved to Srirangapattana due to division of the empire & carried the Simhasana along with him to Srirangapattana. Raja Vodeyar, the Mysuru king defeated Srirangaraya & the throne moved to Mysuru King.
