Am in Flint, Michigan, this weekend for a meeting of Society of Environmental Journalists, my first visit here. Took some time to look around city, reflect upon its fate. Remember, this is the birth place of General Motors. Still hope here. And good people. But struggle, hardship
It is impressive to see what the State of Michigan has done in downtown Flint, with massive investment it has made, with a major university campus and other state gov buildings. Good use of public resources--you have to put state buildings somewhere--to help stabilize downtown.
Even the storefronts here are frozen in time.
And yes. Wherever I went, there were filters on water taps to take out the lead. Still wondered as I had my coffee if I was getting something extra in each cup.
