If our ultimate goal is to create a more peaceful, just, humane world (beyond only considering what we believe directly affects us), we’ll have to stop talking at each other and start talking with each other.
We’ll have to educate each other on issues, even when it seems unfair and tedious.
We’ll have to rigorously attack injustice, not being provoked to chaos by workers of injustice.
We’ll have to be both teachers and students.
We’ll have to do more than vote. We’ll have to cultivate leadership in our communities; provide civics education in our schools, faith organizations, etc; and invite authentic history to the table in determining our future.
We’ll have to truly hear each other’s pain.
We’ll have to elevate our language.
We’ll have to speak and seek “unarmed truth” and wield “unconditional love.”
We’ll have to want a better world. And #BuildTheWill for eradicating injustice, from human trafficking; to police brutality; to the school to prison pipeline; to environmental injustice; to gun violence in our schools. How bad do we want it?
