we talk a lot about the lee & jackson statues in charlottesville, but did you know there's a statue of a confederate soldier in the same park as the jackson statue, in front of the albemarle county courthouse?
while lee & jackson are in the city, johnny reb is county property.
johnny reb was paid for by the united daughters of the confederacy, the city, and the county in 1909. he's been watching over all who come & go from the albemarle county courts for 109 years, reminding black folks every day that they aren't equal heHeWd
last night, richmond's city council voted down a resolution to ask the general assembly for permission to decide locally the fate of their confederate monuments. a former city councilor spoke during public comment on what these symbols mean to him.
in an article last year, a member of the albemarle charlottesville historical society said the county hasn't heard much from constituents about their confederate monument, despite its proximity to the jackson statue, whose removal has been called for.

so let's tell them. residents are demanding the albemarle county board of supervisors take a stand on the issue & seek to have the statue removed. continued silence on the subject of white supremacy will not be toleratchange.org/p/albemarle-co…vatx
