Shout out to Aidan O'Neill QC who first proposed reasonable accommodation for religious believers back on @ukhumanrightsb 7.5 years ago. That idea wound its way through Eweida in Strasbourg (didn't bite), Lady Hale's 2014 lecture and now today's judgment ukhumanrightsblog.com/2011/03/29/squ…
Today's gay cake judgment didn't quite go there but it has undoubtedly increased the protection of religious believers to not be forced to manifest beliefs they don't agree with, and all people not to be forced to manifest political opinions they don't agree with.
Have just seen that my shout out to Aidan O'Neill should have been a double shout out. He did an opinion for Christian Institute on this case published back in 2015 and if you read from section 2 it basically pre-empts today's judgment christian.org.uk/wp-content/upl…
